Being a Course Representative
Course Respresentatives are one of the most important cogs in the University’s quality system. They sit on staff/student liaison committees held at least once per Semester. Students from each Stage (Year) of every course can become Course Representatives (Reps). Reps are appointed for one year at the start of the University Session and are elected by their classmates.
Course Reps are the first point of contact for students wishing to raise concerns or options about their education or the University. A Course Rep is expected to be the voice, eyes and ears for the students in his or her group and should try to assist in remedying problems on their behalf. Being a Class Rep is an important responsibility and there is no doubt that the skills developed doing the job well enhance the Rep’s CV. One Rep is invited to represent the School on the Faculty Board.
Questionnaires
You will be invited to complete two types of questionnaire during your time at the Robert Gordon University.
Module Evaluation Questionnaires
These are handed out towards the end of each Semester by a member of academic staff, one for each module you have studied. They allow you to comment on such things as, how difficult you found the module and how effective you found the teaching to be.
Course Evaluation Questionnaires
These are handed out towards the end of the Sessions and, as well as seeking comments on Course matters, they allow you to rate University facilities, e.g. computers, libraries etc.
The University does take note of what the students report and every effort is made to respond to concerns and problems. Even though you may be in your final year of study, your views will benefit other students in the future.
What Should I Do?
- Find out who your Reps are
- Find out when the staff/student meetings are
- Raise any issues with your Rep
- Complete all questionnaires promptly and fairly
- Volunteer to be a Class Rep
