Appointments
Initial Appointment
- All first appointments at the Student Counselling Services will be with the Student Wellbeing Advisor, who will assess your needs and offer you practical advice. In some circumstances she will refer you to the Student Counsellor.
- If after your appointment with the Wellbeing Advisor you need counselling, the Counsellor will meet with you for an initial session to make an assessment, explain counselling, and engage you in a counselling contract.
- For some students any of these initial appointments may be sufficient.
Time Limited Counselling Contract
- For some students, time limited counselling (or a time limited counselling contract as it is sometimes known), will be the most appropriate option.
- Time limited counselling enables students to attend the Service for an agreed number of counselling sessions.
- If you begin to feel worse while waiting for a regular appointment then please contact the Counselling Service.
- The final session with the Counsellor (often called a review) provides both the client and the Counsellor with an opportunity to evaluate progress.
Cancellation Policy
- If you can not attend your appointment please let us know 48 hours beforehand so that we can arrange another appointment for you.
- If you don't keep an appointment without giving 48 hours notice this will count as one of your time-limited counselling sessions.
- If you serially don't keep appointments we will not offer you ongoing Counselling/Advisory support.
- If you simply don't turn up for an appointment we will wait for you to contact us.
